Annual Giving is our yearly appeal for donations, similar to the practice in American schools. Since 2006, the German International School Washington D.C. has asked members, colleagues and friends of the GISW to support our Annual Giving campaign.
These funds are generally used to cover special items and projects that will enhance the curriculum for all students.
Why is the revenue from tuition not sufficient to cover everything? The GISW is very fotunate to be supported by significant subsidies from the German government including free use of our entire campus, twelve highly qualified teachers, and financial subsidy. However, we are responsible for all operating expenses and for maintaining our facilities. We try very hard to keep our tuition rates as low as possible while still setting aside some “reserve” funds for anticipated future capital projects. Our Annual Giving Campaign helps us achieve some of these projects earlier than we might otherwise be able to.
This year, gifts to the 2017/18 Annual Giving Campaign are used to acquire new and exciting playground equipment for all our students from Preschool through twelfth grade. In the classrooms, their young minds are challenged by our rigorous curricula. So, during recess it’s important to get some fresh air and physical activity in order to come back to class refreshed and ready to focus.

The GISW is committed to making our special brand of education as affordable to as many families as possible and thus maintain the diverse school community we cherish. Our Annual Giving Campaign provides us with the opportunity to complete projects earlier than we may otherwise be able to without raising tuition.
An Annual Giving gift is tax deductible for American as well German taxpayers. Many employers provide a “matching” programs for their employees who make donations.
Yes. When you make a gift to the German International School, you can double or triple its impact by checking with your employer to see if they participate in a matching gift program. Many companies and foundations match the value of charitable gifts made by employees and their spouses and retirees.
Each year, the GISW focuses its Annual Giving efforts on a five week campaign. However, Annual Giving runs from July 1st through June 30 and donations can be made at any time of the year.
You can pledge during the campaign and defer payment until later. You can also pay in installments, if that is more convenient for you. All pledge payments must be received by the close of Annual Giving which is June 30.
It is our hope that GISW will be among your family’s top philanthropic priorities. Individual gifts to Annual Giving range from $10 to $10,000 or more. Only you can decide how much you wish to commit. Please know that no matter the amount, the German International School Washington D.C. needs and appreciates every gift we receive.
Each and every dollar counts. Big or small your donation makes a statement, “I am IN! I believe in our community.” A high participation rate sends a very important signal, within and outside the school community.
Are you IN?
