Athletes and German food lovers get excited for our annual 5K Oktoberfest Run & Fun Run! This fundraiser, which takes place every September, is an event for the whole family. The day starts off with a 5K run for youth and adults through the picturesque neighborhood of Potomac and is followed by a short Fun Run. During the subsequent Oktoberfest participants can re-energize with German specialties and a fresh cold beer. A comprehensive entertainment program is popular with all age groups. Registration opens during the summer of each year. Check back for regular updates about the event. We look forward to seeing you!
Open Houses are held in November and in March of each school year
“How do we best prepare our children for a successful future in a globalized working environment?” A question that most parents ask themselves.
At the present time, we cannot even imagine all the professions our children might aspire in the future. Nevertheless, one fact is obvious: a solid academic foundation and the study of a variety of languages and cultures will give our children the best foundation and access to a broad range of opportunities.
In 1961, the German School Washington D.C. was founded with the goal of offering students a learning environment with daily and intensive exposure to German culture and language. The school is a co-educational private school educating students from over twenty different nationalities in preschool (starting age 2) through 12th grade.
The teaching and learning culture at the German School provides a stimulating academic environment that helps our students to give their best in all areas and to develop into responsible global citizens. The German International Abitur opens doors to universities all over the world, which is more important than ever before.
With its own swimming pool, soccer fields and a brand new LEED Gold certified science building the campus lies tucked away in a beautiful quiet neighborhood.
The German School offers the following qualifications:
> German Abitur – after grade 12
> German International Abitur (DIA); a German Abitur with English language elements; following the German curriculum – after grade 12
> High School Diploma (Maryland) – after grade 12
> Realschule Graduation – after grade 10
Graduates of the German School Washington D.C. have been accepted to universities including:
Johns Hopkins University
Carnegie Mellon University
